I had a hard time accepting it when addiction was initially identified as a brain disorder. I was clean and sober at the time, and I thought the "illness hypothesis" was too soft, and that it was just another method to absolve addicts of responsibility for their acts. I wasn't the only one who had this thought. People still contact me asking if addiction is an illness or a choice. It's the chicken-and-egg problem. We are not all on the same page when it comes to understanding this sickness. Even persons in recovery have differing viewpoints. So, what really is the truth? Is it true that addiction is a disease? Is it a choice, or is it a necessity? I've been at this for ten years and still haven't figured it out. Other members of the family have battled cancer, diabetes, and Parkinson's disease. They were grateful for the treatment and counselling they received. My child uses drugs and refuses help, just like my father, who died early as a result of his addiction. My child switches from one medicine to the next. I've reached the end of my patience. What exactly is addiction? People say it's a sickness, but other diseases don't steal, lie, or hurt the people they care about. Addiction is not a sickness, in my opinion. I really wish I could. It would make things go more smoothly. Addiction, in my opinion, is a choice. What are your feelings on the subject?" Many people feel that addiction is not a disease because it is the result of a person's decision to use drugs and/or alcohol. That is correct. It is possible to choose the first time. Keep this in mind, though. Who do you know who has never experimented with booze or drugs? They are tried by almost everyone at some point in their lives. So, why do some people become hooked to something while others can live without it? Your brain chemistry will change if you're genetically prone to this sickness (meaning addiction runs in your family), according to scientists. Most specialists feel that once the brain has been chemically modified or altered by addiction, the person loses the ability to choose and regulate their behaviour. Some people can quit drinking on their own or with the assistance of a 12-step programme or another support group (see below for links). Others require medical supervision in order to safely and comfortably withdraw from alcohol. The best option for you is determined by how much you've been drinking, how long you've had a problem, the stability of your living situation, and any other health issues you may have. Often, the first step is to see your primary care doctor, also known as a GP. Your doctor can assess your drinking habits, diagnose any co-occurring disorders, evaluate your overall health, and make treatment recommendations. They may even be able to prescribe medication to assist you in quitting smoking. Medical management of the physical aspects of addiction is one of the advantages of inpatient treatment. Using prescription drugs in conjunction with treatment increases recovery success rate to 50%. Medications can be used to alleviate withdrawal symptoms in order to avoid relapse or to create a negative physical reaction to alcohol that helps eliminate the desire to drink. The following drugs are commonly used in alcohol detox and recovery: Acamprosate is a drug that is used to treat alcohol cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Naltrexone is a medication that is used to reduce cravings for alcohol as well as its pleasurable effects. Vivitrol is a Naltrexone extended-release formulation. When alcohol is consumed, disulfiram has severe negative effects. Contact Website: Rehab Centers Other Important links: West Palm Beach Rehab FL Rehab

The poet TS Elliot once said, "Nothing pleases people more than continuing to think what they have always thought while imagining themselves to be thinking something new and daring: it combines the benefit of security with the delight of adventure." I love that sentiment. As a result of reading that quote, I began to consider many aspects of sports that we often take for granted. For example, for a long time, I took the following idea for granted: "Sport is a good thing at its core." Also read about: Mary Kom MS Dhoni AB de villiers Maria Sharapova Ayrton Senna This seems like a no-brainer at first glance. Indeed, as parents, we actively encourage our children to join sports teams to reap the physical benefits of regular physical activity while also developing their personalities and interacting with others through sport. More training, "elite" clubs, and coaching are sought, and young athletes are treated. The fact that our children are doing things that we didn't do as children excite us, and we are reassured by the notion that sports are inherently beneficial. If this is the case, then having more sports to choose from must be even better. I've thought about this statement a lot over the years, and I'm not sure I agree. It doesn't appear to be supported by research. And after hearing from those who have been harmed by the youth sports system's failures as well as those who have survived it, I've come to strongly disagree with the statement. We discussed this topic recently on our podcast with Jay Coakley, the world's leading sports sociologist, because he had written the following in a recent paper: "Sport promotes development.' Few people disagree with or qualify this statement, whether applied to individual, community, or societal development. The rarely questioned link between sport and development is based on the dual assumption that, unlike other activities, the sport has a fundamentally positive and pure essence that transcends time and place, resulting in positive changes for individuals and groups that participate in or consume sport... sport-related decisions and policies continue to be shaped primarily by unquestioned beliefs grounded in wishful thinking. Self-confidence is a crucial component of humility. Strong leaders in the various teams I've been a part of have always seemed to me to avoid conflict through genuine humility. These guys were an inspiration to me because they taught me that true confidence comes from being humble. Give generously, and you will be rewarded! If you don't give, you have nothing to look forward to in life. But, on the other hand, you'll get some playing time on the team if you do well. If you're kind and generous, people will take notice of you. People will respect your drive if you are committed. All of that was made clear to me through my involvement in sports. Read about Different Sports Players: Pele Sachin tendulkar Roger Federer Find something you're passionate about and go after it. I learned the value of pursuing a hobby or recreation you're genuinely interested in during my many years of participation in sports. It's the best way to be good at what you do because it gives you a daily dose of happiness to do something you enjoy. Success is well worth the effort it takes to get there. Sports introduced me to the concept of success and made me fall in love with it. It doesn't matter if you're looking for a team or individual recognition in sports; there's always something to strive for. My pride grew with every accomplishment, and I still believe that my drive to succeed directly results from the energising feelings I got after the big team wins, clutch goals, or late-game comebacks.
